Environmental and Non Destructive Testing

Environmental Testing

In-house testing is utilized for qualification and first article programs for CED pyrotechnic and electronic devices.   This capability optimizes schedule performance by shortening set-up times and increasing throughput, as well as improves our quality by establishing thorough process controls.  CED in-house testing lowers project costs and improves the overall value to our customers.

CED Engineering and Test Department personnel develop extensive test plans that describe in detail the type of testing to be performed.  This includes listing all equipment, fixtures and supplies inventory to be used during the tests.  The plan details all environmental conditioning required in preparation for the tests both as part of First Article, Qualification and Lot Acceptance Testing. The following is a partial list of testing capabilities currently in place at CED:

  • Salt Fog
  • Jolt
  • 40 Foot Drop
  • Altitude Chamber
  • Vibration Facility
  • Accelerometer
  • Closed Bomb
  • Insulation Resistance (VDC/RMS)
  • Pressure Chambers
  • Jumble Machine
  • Leak Detection (Helium)
  • Temperature & Humidity Chamber
  • Conditioning Chambers (+300F to -100F)
  • Electro Static Discharge
  • Velocity (Optics & Wire)
  • Oscilloscopes (Pressure/Time)

In addition, CED has designed and manufacturered numerous custom test fixtures and equipment to meet both customer requirements and our own research and development needs.  The following is a partial list of this equipment that developed and built by at CED for various programs.

  • Vibration / Shock Fixtures
  • Closed Bombs
  • Velocity Chambers
  • Functioning Simulators
  • Drop Test Fixtures
  • Firing Panels
  • Pressure Chambers
  • Sensoring & Monitoring Stations

Non Destructive Testing

CED has in-house capability to perform non-destructive testing (NDT) on all of its proprietary and government build to-print products.  The in-house capability ensures the highest quality requirements are maintained with a strict adherence to standardized process controls.  A listing of NDT equipment and capabilities is provided below:

  • MS50 Mass Spectrometer Leak Tester
  • Testing to 3 x 10^8 std cc/Sec
  • Helium Pressure vessel for "Bombing" or forcing helium into Unit Under Test (UUT)
  • Certified Operators to SNT-TC-1A

Radiographic X-Ray Equipment

  • Seifert 320 kV X-Ray  System with 3002 control panel with
  • Fuji FPM 4000 X-Ray  Film Processor
  • Fuji Dynamix Series 4 Computed Radiography
